Homewares and Home Decor Options In Jakarta - Part 1

Last year I wrote a blog about where to buy furniture if you are a new expat here in the bustling city of Jakarta.

That blog has proven to be hugely popular! Thanks to everyone who has read it.

Keeping with the theme, I decided to do a new round of shop visits, this time focused on home decor and homewares - in other words, decorations, rather than furniture and larger items.

Some of the businesses mentioned will be known to many of you, but others might not be.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), given the number of gorgeous shops around, what was planned as a one-off post is now going to be a two-partner! So stay tuned for Part 2 soon!

In the mean time, check out Part 1 of my favourite homewares shops around South Jakarta.

If you have other suggestions, then let me know!

Studio B

What a gorgeous shop and what lovely people work here.

Ever since I arrived in Jakarta, I have been hearing about Studio B, but until recently, had never visited.

This little shop, situated not far from Pondok Indah Mall, is a delightful blend of furniture, homewares and even a small cafe.

But don’t be discouraged if you don’t find exactly what you are looking for at first glance. The great thing about Studio B is that they also produce furnitiure to order. I have seen many of their pieces in friends’ homes and the quality has always been very high. Even better, they are easy to deal with and work to deadlines (not always a given in Indonesia!).

Definitely a shop to check out. For a look online, click here.

Kemala Home Living

I first visited this lovely little shop in Kemang late last year. I quickly returned when I had an end-of-year Teacher gift to purchase.

They have a really lovely blend of wooden and ceramic tableware, as well as some soft furnishings and glassware.

My personal favourite item is the pear-shaped platter. Paired with two beautiful cups (see what I did there!), it made a really lovely gift for a friend recently.

To see more about this shop, head to this link. I should note that there seems to be a lot more in the store than shown online.

Cayenne

I really love Cayenne. I feel as though their aesthetic is my aesthetic.

Selling a range of products from soft furnishings, to tableware and even larger items such as tables and chairs, I am a frequent visitor to this store in Kemang.

My mother-in-law recently visited from Australia and it was one of the first places I took her to. She absolutely loved the shop and ending up buying several cushion covers and table runners.

The style is modern and clean, with a definite Indonesian leaning. Beautiful table runners are sold alongside teak trays, ceramic cups and saucers as well as gorgeous blown glass vases and water jugs.

Chic Mart

Chic Mart is a great place to head if you have gifts to buy for family back in your home country, or a visitor from overseas. I have purchased many, many items from Chic Mart over the last 18 months.

They have a real variety of products, from artwork, to Indonesian clothing, to jewelery. Not to mention the soft furnishings, wood trays and rattan style baskets. You can even buy rugs or furniture. They also carry a great range of bags made from recycled laundry bags (if you live in Jakarta, you know how colourful they are!).

Project Kresnik

If you read my recent blog post about Plastik Kembali in Lombok, you will be familiar with the types of items to be found at Project Kresnik.

Located in Cilindak, Project Kresnik makes and sells beautiful homewares and artwork made from recycled plastic.

I have been coveting their baskets for some time and have thoughts about having a piece of art commissioned in the not too distant future. Better yet, they are situated opposite Gordi HQ, so you can stop for coffee after visiting.

Don’t be put off by the entrance. It does look like you are entering into someone’s private home, but I can assure you that there is a business behind the gates.

Elements Concept

A store on most expat’s radar, their furniture is known by the Elements tag you see stamped onto all pieces.

An international exporter, this shop in Kemang knows its market and is devoted to Boho Chic with an Indonesian twist.

Although most of their items are larger pieces of furniture, they do still sell some gorgeous smaller items, including stools, trays, lamp shades and mirrors. Absolutely worth a visit.

St James Factory Outlet

Ok, so this one is a bit left-of-centre, as it is neither in Jakarta (strictly speaking) nor a home decor shop. However, it is still a worthy inclusion.

Located in Tangerang, the St James Factory Outlet should not be confused with the St James shops you see in malls around Jakarta.

Whilst all part of the same company, the factory outlet is HUGE and a mecca for those of us who enjoy pretty plates, tableware and beautiful but functional kitchen storage items.

I can’t comment on price differentials with what you can find in the St James mall shops, but the range at the factory outlet is second to none. Even better, they have lots of sale items as well as seasonal items (think Christmas plates etc).

I have now been twice since arriving in Jakarta and each time come back with so many plates and kitchen related items that my husband starts to look nervous ;-)

If you can, try and organise a tour of the factory floor. It is really interesting to see how the tableware is made.
