5 Tips to Refresh Your Home this Spring

For those of us living in the southern hemisphere it is that time of the year again.

Spring has sprung, the birds are chirping and thoughts turn to long, lazy summers, Christmas at the Beach and for the kids, school holidays!

So how do you get yourself ready for the new season? Especially if you are on a budget?

Well, here are my 5 top suggestions. Got other ideas? Then let me know!

1. Give the space a big clean!

  1. I know that sounds obvious, but take all the cushions off the sofa and wash and vacuum, air the rugs outside, dust the tops of your curtain rods. Just really get into a good old fashioned spring clean. It is amazing how much a cleaner space can make you feel rejuvenated!

2. Move your furniture around.

Shift an occasional chair from one room to another, change up your paintings and wall art. Create a new look and feel to each room, without having to invest a cent in new decor.

3. Declutter.

Ok, so I am not suggesting that you go all Marie Kondo. But after a long, cold winter, have a look at the items in your home that no longer bring you joy. Use this as an opportunity to throw away, recycle or donate those decor items that no longer work in your home. Even better, this means you can ...

4. Buy a few new key pieces.

It doesn't have to be lavish. Even something small, like a new cushion, throws, or even a rug. With just a small outlay, you can completely update your home. Dreaming of a beach holiday? Buy a few tropical-themed cushion covers, a lovely green or aqua throw and place a few large shells around the room to create the look and feel of being on a tropical island getaway.

5. Bring the outdoors in.

With the cold weather or winter receding, what better time than Spring to invest in some new indoor plants or cut up some gorgeous flowers from your garden and pop in mismatched jars and vases around the house. Few things refresh a home as much as flowers and plants!
