Plastik Kembali - Recycled Art and Home Decor

Late last year, I spent a week in gorgeous Lombok with my family. Such a beautiful part of Indonesia, I was so excited to visit somewhere new and just spend a week doing nothing more than reading, swimming and relaxing.

What was interesting though, was that every time I mentioned that we were going to Lombok, my friends here in Jakarta would say “Make sure you go to Plastik Kembali!!”

My first response was “what is that?!”.

As it turns out, Plastik Kembali is now one of my new favourite places to shop.

A provider of unique art and homewares, as they say on their website,

The Plastik Kembali philosophy is simple: make cool, usable stuff from plastic waste while doing our part to make the world cleaner, healthier and even more beautiful. Every single day.

Anyone who has been to Indonesia knows that plastic refuse is a real issue. Even the most beautiful beaches sadly have plastic floating in the waves, or washed up on shore. Acknowledging this, Plastik Kembali’s idea focuses on recycling single use and discarded plastic into the most amazing homewares and pieces of art.

So… back to my Lombok story. As it turned out, the resort that we had selected (the very gorgeous Sempiak Villas) is right next door to Plastik Kembali and in fact the owners of both businesses are friends. By pure random good luck, I actually met the owner of Plastic Kembali (Elissa Gjertson) outside our villa one day, and we had a nice chat. I mentioned that I was looking forward to heading over to her shop.

Unfortuantely, on the day I headed over, Elissa had taken ill, but she had made sure to tell her staff that I was coming and I was extremely well looked after by a team member with near-perfect English.

With a suitcase already nearly full, I initially focused on just a few smaller items, indulging myself of some gorgeous drink coasters as well as some very cute key-rings.

Thankfully, Plastik Kembali offers shipping and I was then able to make a much larger purchase and have everything shipped to me here in Jakarta, in time for my return from Lombok. The shipping rate was very reasonable and I had my items within a few days.

So, what did I get? Well as you can see below, I purchased several items, from the most unique and colourful placemats, to some stunning bowls that have pride of place for BBQ parties.

How gorgeous are these salad bowls? I bring them out every time we have friends over. They are always remarked upon.

I absolutely love these placemats. They are very durable thankfully.

These drink coasters are fun, and we use them both for normal dining as well as entertaining.

If you want to check out Plastik Kembali, then follow the link. To be clear, I am in no way affiliated with this company. I just love what they do!
