I am really excited to introduce my new business, Interiorology Homewares.

For those of you who are new here, my name is Ambre and I am an economist and interior decorator from Perth, Australia.

In 2020, my family and I (husband and two sons), moved to Jakarta (the capital of Indonesia), for my husband’s work.

Jakarta - a city of contradictions.

Indonesia is hot, vibrant, loud, busy, smelly, amazing and everything in between. We love living here, but also, have days where we want to pull our hair out ;-)

A nation of over 18,000 islands, it is also huge and diverse.

Each island has its own history, culture and in some cases, predominant religion.

This really is a country of wonder, with beautiful ocean locations, lush forests, and crowded cities.

With my love of all things interior decorating, not to mention a keen eye for prices and quality, one of my favourite things to do here is to explore the burgeoning homewares, textiles and furniture industry of Indonesia.

Many of us will have come across furniture stores in our home countries that sell Indonesian furniture or homewares. However, these items are often mass-produced for the export market. They are also very often bland - cream, charcoal and whites wherever you look.

With that in mind, I decided to start looking out for unique, bespoke and original small furniture, homewares and textiles that were produced by small-scale businesses and local artisans. Not only that, I wanted to search out homewares that were bright and colourful and actually represented what we see here in Indonesia. I love a neutral theme as much as the next person, but many of the items I see sold in Bali as ‘Indonesian style’ are really just a combination of Boho and Coastal. Lovely, but nothing to do with Indonesia.

What I found was a treasure trove of the most beautiful items, many designed and built with sustainablity and social welfare in mind. Indeed, many of these smaller producers use recycled products to create their work, and/or train up local women from the villages, providing them with training and incomes.

And so the idea of Interiorology Homewares was born!

Going forward, I plan to create small, highly curated pocket collections. My focus will be on homewares such as table, living and bedding textiles and soft furnishings, as well as kitchen and table related homewares made from recycled plastic. Think cutting boards and salad bowls made from beautiful, colourful, recycled plastics. Gorgeous, and good for the environment!

Interiorology Homewares is just getting started but I hope that you love the items I have selected as much as I do. Make sure to check in every few weeks for new items and information. Soft launch from 15 November 2023.
